It was a pleasure to visit this world-leading financial services company in the heart of Canary Wharf. I met with a team of people who were chosen to select art for their offices. This came at a time when I was overcome by incredible sadness and I had prayed “Lord please give me something” it was a true cry from the heart. The call came the next day, via a gallery I worked with…. miracles do happen. We took lots of art to the meeting, I has no idea what to expect other than that they wanted to see landscapes, paintings of London and available abstract art that was for sale.
Expressionism in art
True expressionism in art is about being real. I had not painted for 3 months as I had a broken heart. I had just created a piece called “Heart heals” I can only paint with joy in my heart. My focus was light on the horizon and of brighter times to come. I showed various pieces of art and a selection was made with different levels of enthusiasm for each piece, which is understandable given the number of people in the meeting. Our aim was to create a collection that everyone liked and felt comfortable with.
Abstract Oil Painting
When everyone saw the abstract oil painting “heart heals” the vote was unanimous, this was the favourite. Then the question came what is it about? Fighting back the tears, with a lump in my throat, I said it was to heal my broken heart. I then felt a wave of love coming from a room of people in an informal meeting like I had not felt before. They encouraged me and said yes they had been there too. It was so unexpected and so kind I think my heart actually healed in that moment. It just goes to show if we can express vulnerability there is help at hand. Prayers answered thanks to God and to this room full of strangers that treated me with compassion and kindness. I hope my art brings joy to everyone in these offices for many years…

My handmade jewellery captures my mind as it twists and turns. Making jewellery keeps me at peace. As I thread the wire each movement calms me and I relax into a new place, weaving a graceful presence in the moment, capturing the essence of now into an everlasting wearable work of art. I don’t not …
