Cafe Art
Spitalfields Art Market is a wonderful place to work. Abstract cityscape artist Sara Sherwood is happiest when surrounded by fellow creatives. Cafe Art is a wonderful enterprise. Ex-homeless artist Geraldine Crimmins has just received lottery funding via Cafe Art. https://www.cafeart.org.uk To set up an art mentoring programme for homeless people. World homelessness day is on the 10th October 2020. #WakeUpToHomelessness. This video shows how inspirational Geraldine is. https://youtu.be/xJZg9JzFjZ0 She speaks highly of Crisis who helped her. https://www.crisis.org.uk/get-involved/world-homeless-day/ She has also worked with the big issue, street art project https://www.bigissue.com/category/culture/street-art/ Other useful info Twitter:@TNLComFund and @DCMSFacebook:@TNLCommunityFund @dcmsgovuk Hashtag: #CommunitiesCan
London Artists
Sculptor Steve Yeates https://www.steveyeates.co.uk mentored Geraldine giving practical tips on how to sell and present work. She visited his studio for support and guidance. Steve works with recycled and reclaimed materials. He makes discarded and broken things beautiful. I love his glass figures created from vandalised bus shelters.
Political poet Louca Kousoulou is campaigning to change broken lives by creating a petition to lobby government to mentor our youth https://trueheartsunite.co.uk #no knives. He says “They are our future and this alternative education and mentoring is key to improving society and our country’s destiny”. He regularly visits Spitalfields market and gets inspiration from being with fellow creatives and the designer makers. Mentoring is proven to achieve results as Geraldine will testify.
I admire the street artist Skid Robot based in Los Angeles who has raised awareness to homelessness.
Oil on Canvas
The arts are a way to find peace. When I paint it brings me an inner joy. That is a great gift to share and experience. I would encourage everyone to paint, draw, sculpt, dance, create music, write. I love working in oil on canvas. Find any positive creative outlet for self expression. I also believe that with intent “goodness” gets captured in an art form. It does not matter about the outcome of the art, it is the process of creativity that is important. That way you free yourself to experiment. Have fun and you never know what you might make when you approach it with a light heart. To see how I work https://www.sarasherwood.co.uk/about/demos-videos-by-sara-sherwood-london-cityscape-art/
